Born to a typically reclusive clan of Keepers of the Moon Miqo'te, Astrid decided as a young woman that she wanted more excitement from life and cut ties with her family to strike out on her own. She found her way to Ul'dah where she spent years working her way through the ranks of the Weaver's Guild. Bustle, the name of her line of personal designs, has become a pseudonym of a sort and is often used interchangeably with her given name, especially with those familiar with her work.

In Ul'dah she also found love with an ambitious and clever thaumaturge who dreamed of mastering every kind of magic she could get her hands on. Astrid was familiar with a small amount of conjurery, having grown up healing cuts and scrapes among her family in the Gridanian forest. Together they formed the core of a small adventuring party who took on mercenary work protecting trade routes from common bandits.

Tragically, her love perished in the chaos of the Seventh Umbral Calamity along with most of their adventuring party. The surviving members were unable to weather their grief over their missing friends and parted in sorrow.

Faced now with rebuilding her life in the wake of great loss, Astrid's growing cynicism over forming such bonds only to have them ripped away is at war with extreme loneliness that drives her to seek companionship. For now she seems to have settled upon verbally lashing out to shield her own wounds even as she forms new attachments, which can make her rather abrasive to deal with. However, if one can get past such behavior, they will uncover a poorly hidden soft underbelly and affectionate heart.

She has taken up her love's quest in remembrance and is trying to learn every school of magic she catches wind of, with varying levels of success.
